The author and director of the film The Soviet Story, EDVINS SNORE, will discuss his film which presents new archival documents and information from the Soviet period as relevant to the issues of today. 2009 saw the commemoration of several significant events of this period: the 70th anniversary of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the Soviet invasion of Poland and debates about the true origins of these events.

Also, the Kremlin passed laws labeling anyone who disputes the Russian version of history as a "terrorist" and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) passed a resolution commerating August 23 as a day to remember the victims of Communism and Nazism.

The Soviet Story informs the viewer of the complexity of this period of history. It also is considered relevant to the issues of freedom of the press and information today in Russia and other part of the region. The film has been translated into 30 languages and is currently being shown on public broadcasting stations throughout the United States.
